However, all beaches in Mexico are federal property, and visitors must be granted access. For a lazy day sunbathing, this is a spectacular option.
Of course, Cancun’s location on the Yucatan Peninsula sets in prime fashion to be the jumping off spot to some of the world’s best ancient Mayan ruins. Special trips to Chichen Itza and other Mayan sites are easily arranged by hotels, resorts and tour operators. Cancun is a reasonably priced destination that offers a wide variety of outdoor activities and historical and cultural sites.
